When Lauren brought up the idea of making over our momiform I jumped at the idea and signed up right away. I very ambitiously (some may say overly ambitiously) thought of all the amazing things I could sew up in the next few weeks before this post would go live, until, you know, I remembered that I’m a stay-at-home/work-from-home mom that goes to school full time, runs a weekly podcast, and oh yeah, is releasing her first sewing pattern.
So for this momiform makeover, I instead decided to stick to pieces that I currently needed the most. Which brings us to my first piece. I definitely needed a jacket because even though Texas doesn’t get very cold in the winter, no jacket is just plain crazy. I wanted something super cool that could be paired with skirts, or jeans, and the Evergreen Jacket, by Hey June, was the perfect choice to fill this much needed gap in my wardrobe. For the fabric I used a brown, embossed, faux leather that I’ve had in my stash for quite some time. I’ve had this for so long that I don’t even remember where I bought it from.
I paired this jacket with the oh-so-wonderful Ginger Jeans by Closet Case Files. These babies were such a great sew and they fit me like a glove from day one. I’ve worn them a few times already and every time I’m amazed at how comfortable they are. I’m thinking of cutting a pair of them as shorts to wear around the house and on one of those warm, winter days we have here in Texas. Here they are worn a bit more casually with a Union St. Tee by Hey June. For my next pieces I chose some more athletic pieces because I workout on a daily basis. I sprint and I lift weights so I needed something for both occasions. I opted for the Sloan Leggings by Hey June in this awesome print from Joann’s, and then upcycled an old dress into a pair of Peg Legs Shorties by Patterns for Pirates. I wear booty shorts, or shorties, at almost every workout, so to find a pattern that I can use to make more makes me so incredibly happy.I’m wearing the leggings with the Union St. Tee because I’m not a huge fan of crew necks, but this v-neck is exactly the kind of top I was looking for. I already have 2 more Union St. Tee tops cut out so that I always have an extra one. The shirt below is my comfy Crossfit shirt that just had to make an appearance because I wear it to workout a lot. Also I would like to mention that I am wearing a Strappy Back bra version of the Agility Tank and Dress by 5 out of 4 patterns that I love! I just didn’t want to flash you with all my mommy handles and goodies in one post! lol. Maybe another time.
I wanted to also make a little something for date night and for this I used the Nettie Bodysuit by Closet Case Files and my soon to be released pattern, The Miriam Skirt in its mini version. I love this bodysuit because it doesn’t come untucked when I’m wearing a skirt. Also, it’s a great basic to have. I’ll definitely be making a lot more of these!Below is the Branson Top by Lily Sage & Co. in this gorgeous, colorful, cotton I had. I actually had already made one like this but my friend stole it before I could even post about it so I knew I had to make another. I think it would be cute for meeting a friend for lunch or coffee sans kids.Lastly, is the Seafarer Top by Sew Much Ado worn in a real life setting for a bit more of a casual look. This top has been worn so many times already in the few weeks since I’ve made it. I wear it all the time while I sew and work in my studio that I had to photograph it in a real scenario. I already have 3 more cut out and I think I’ll actually do something colorful next time. What I love about this top is that it’s long, but because of the band at the bottom, it doesn’t just go down to my bum. I can wear it at home with a pair of cute shorts or put it on with my Ginger Jeans and flats and go grocery shopping or to run a quick errand. It’s definitely one of my favorite pieces.I definitely loved this Momiform tour and I think it should be something all sewing moms do at least once a year! Now don’t forget to hop on over to see all the other hot mamas’ looks of the day. I will share more in-depth reviews on the patterns later on and let y’all know when they go live on Instagram. So make sure you follow me on there: @reynalay.
